NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH STORIES as of 03/10/2010
Neighborhood Watch Members
THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK IN KEEPING OUR
NEIGHBORHOODS SAFE AND SECURE!
These are
prime examples of our Neighborhood Watch Program at work!
February 2, 2010, a resident on Blackburn called the
police reference a W/M they had observed come from the
backyard of their residence. Upon arrival the police
followed the footprints in the snow to a house on Stephens.
They found the suspect had broken into the boarded up
garage. The residence is vacant an under renovations at this
time. Inside the garage the officer found numerous power and
hand tools that had been disturbed. The caller watched the
suspect get into a vehicle and was able to copy down the
license plate number. When the officer ran the license plate
and the registered owner through lien they found that the
registered owner is currently on probation for home invasion
and larceny. The vehicle’s registration returned to a home
in the area and officers responded to the home where they
located the vehicle and registered owner. He was
subsequently placed under arrest for B&E of the garage. If
it wasn’t for the observant caller that went above and
beyond to get information the suspect would have gotten
away. This kind of diligence is exactly what we need for our
Neighborhood Watch Program
January 28, 2010 a caller from the Culver-Blackburn area called the police on a suspicious vehicle cruising their neighborhood. The caller stated a dark colored ford S.U.V. was driving slowly down their street with no headlights while 2 black males were walking up and down driveways. Upon the arrival of the police the suspects jumped into the vehicle and they sped away. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver of the vehicle came to a stop. The officers checked the area where the two black males were walking up driveways and they located a screw driver and a flashlight on the ground. Upon further investigation the officer found items that were stolen from some cars in the S.U.V. The three suspects were placed under arrest without incident and charged with Larceny From Auto.
Neighborhood Watch works again.

In the 22000 block of
Harper Lake an observant neighbor recovered a snow blower
for his neighbor. The caller watched an older male pull a
snow blower out of the service door of the garage. The
neighbor didn’t recognize the male as the resident. The
unknown male started dragging the snow blower down the
street. When the police pulled up the unknown male stated
he had gotten the machine from someone’s trash. The
observant officer realized it wasn’t trash day for Harper
Lake and noticed drag marks from the machine all the way
back to the neighbor’s garage door. Between the information
obtained from the caller and the evidence at the scene the
unknown male was placed under arrest for larceny. Once
again the Neighbor Hood Watch Program stopped a crime in
progress. Another job well done.
In the 20000 block of Alger a Neighbor chased 3 unknown males behind his neighbor’s residence onto Gaukler near Harper. The caller stated he was in his garage when he heard his neighbors side door slam shut. When he looked over his fence he observed the males running towards the backyard from the side door. He gave a short chase then called the police. A search of the area was done by the police but they were unable to locate any of the suspects. Fortunately other officers had run across these males at different times during the night before the home invasion and one of them had a good license plate on the vehicle they were driving. Thankfully the caller stopped a home invasion in progress before his neighbor lost any of their possessions. I’m confident that during the follow up investigation the males will be located at a later date.
12-09-2009 Once again our citizens are on the look out and on the ball. On Saturday December 5, in the early evening hours a resident motorist observed a suspicious vehicle driving in the Masonic/Harper area and called the police. They stated the vehicle was a Grand Marquis fully equipped with police looking lights in the front and rear deck, but it didn’t appear to be operated by a police officer. They stated it was occupied by 3 young males. The caller kept an eye on the males in the vehicle until the police arrived. The occupants were arrested on unrelated Charges and the vehicle was impounded. This is a great example of the community crime watch at it’s best.
On 11-23-09 In the 23000 block of Recreation a caller stated they saw a young male sitting on his porch smoking a cigarette get up and go across the street to a neighbor’s house where he went into their backyard. Another neighbor was also looking out and observed him trying the windows to the bedrooms to the rear of the residence. He successfully opened one of the windows and entered the house. Both neighbors immediately called the police with a great description of the suspect and direction of travel when he left. The suspect was placed under arrest within minutes of the home invasion. If it weren’t for the quick response and calls from the neighbors a would be criminal might have gotten away with a home invasion. Another prime example of neighbor’s watching out for each other.
Here are two examples of neighbors stepping up and getting involved, they called the police when they saw a crime being committed which resulted in several arrests.
Thanks to the
observant neighbor on Courtland for identifying the suspect
that stole several items from his neighbors garage. He
stated he witnessed the suspect take the items and load them
into her vehicle. The suspect was a resident at one time in
the victim’s home but had been kicked out. She then returned
over a one month period stealing items from the attached
garage to pawn to support her drug addiction. Without the
neighbor coming forward we wouldn’t have been able to obtain
a warrant for her arrest.
Marina Watch is working. In the island Harbor Marina someone
had their rudder stolen from their sailboat. When they
called the police to report it a witness stated they had
just observed a white pick up truck drive off with a rudder
in the back and felt the two males may have stolen the
rudder in question. The witness had a great description of
the suspects and their vehicle. In fact they went as far as
to right down the license plate number. The officer followed
up with the neighboring city and found the males at the
residence with the rudder still in the back of the pick up
truck. Upon further investigation it was determined this
rudder in question was not the one stolen from our marina.
But if it weren’t for the extra steps taken by the witness
we wouldn’t have been able to jump on it right away and
determine it wasn’t the one stolen. The victim and suspects
were both thankful that it was cleared up right away without
question.
On 7-28-09 in the area of Lingemann a neighbor stopped two black males from breaking into their neighbor’s house by calling the police. They saw two suspicious black males hanging around their neighbors house and called the police. When the police arrived at the residence they found the back door had been tampered with, a search of the area was conducted, resulting in two arrests for attempt home invasion.
A job well done!!
On 8-17-09 in the area of 28000 block of Joan a neighbor called the police to report a suspicious w/m walking back and forth in front of their neighbor’s house to a black car parked in the street carrying some sort of bag. After a long investigation the officers were able to determine the suspect was getting into the neighbor’s garage and stealing items then loading them into the trunk of the car. There were two occupants in the vehicle that were transported to the police department were they both stated the w/m suspect told them he was going to drive around and find some garages to break into and steal from. The suspect was located running through the streets in Roseville, there was a short foot chase in Roseville and the suspect was arrested. If it wasn’t for the neighbor watching out this guy probably would have gotten away with several items from several garages in the area.
On 8-17-09 in the area of 22000 Raymond Ct. A neighbor stopped a two suspects from a landscape company from getting away with stealing their neighbors lawnmower from their detached garage. The neighbor witnessed one of the males enter the garage and remove a lawnmower and start cutting the grass. After he was done cutting the grass he loaded the lawnmower onto his trailer. The Police were able to determine the lawnmower did belong to the homeowner and placed the two males under arrest for larceny. Thanks to the observant neighbor the bad guys were stopped once again.
Thank you,
Keep up the good work!
